Music inspired by an imagined return : connecting trains
Returning to the joy of melody and music, I had been developing this as a solo piece and then, last summer began to collaborate with Finn Petcher who has added such magic.
There are now three pieces of music all inspired around the theme of bringing back the trains to neglected areas of the west of Ireland where there has been a campaign to have these tracks re-opened. A comprehensive appraisal of the proposal to reopen the Mayo-Sligo rail link by Dr. John Bradley was launched in 2024. It appears that this region of the north west of Ireland ranks among the poorest in Europe regarding public transport services.
There has been a campaign by “west on track” to have dormant sections of the north western railways re-opened.
A big vision is for the trains to return right up to Donegal and finally, connecting into the north of Ireland.
This piece of music imagines trains once again travelling through these neglected areas of the Irish countryside, connecting people and places, bringing energy and new life.
