Kundalini Yoga & Meditation for parents
I would like to offer regular classes online to support other parents who may benefit from a community of practice. I am a single mum, a home educating parent and someone concerned for the future of children.
I have been teaching Kundalini Yoga and Meditation for ten years now and have additional training in healing trauma, children’s yoga and other healing modalities. The focus of these classes is to resource parents and especially to heal the nervous system and build resilience from the effects of stress, so that we can be more present for our children.
These classes will be offered via zoom at a time that is convenient – tbc.
RESONANCE & ATTUNEMENT :
A committed community of practice for parents
When we gather together. Without words. Without having to define ourselves or even share our story, we can amplify our intentions through our attention, presence and mutual awareness. The quality of our consciousness is determined by the capacity of our nervous system.
To be present for our children. To be really THERE for them. To be able to listen deeply and notice what is going on beneath their words and behaviours – this brings us into the realm of resonance and attunement.
The word resonance comes from the realm of sound. Attunement or becoming attuned is a process of coming into sync and attentive awareness – having the quality of sensitivity and harmony. I choose these words as they convey the subtle and intangible qualities that we as parents are invited to develop so that we can move out of stress and into a state of flow and harmony with our children.
As parents, it become even more precious that we make time to tune into our innate human capacity for intuition, for inner knowing and inner guidance. We make decisions. We make choices. EVER DAY. One of the most important choices that we ever make is who we choose to be. For ourselves, for our children. There are many behaviours and habits that may be unconscious and we are not aware of them. As we grow in awareness, we have more choice and a capacity to change our lives for the better. This is also part of the ongoing and constant fine tuning that is part of life – especially when we are living with a growing & evolving child.
For some of us there is the additional and expanded scope of responsibility that comes with home educating or unschooling our children. This asks that we bring all of ourselves -setting the tone, creating the environment, while ensuring that our children’s needs are met. As parents we may also need to learn how to anticipate our child’s needs and we need to learn to be attentive enough to sense what is coming next on our shared journey through the stages of continuous growth, life and learning.
In all of this, there can be a value in gathering together as a community of practice. Our shared intention is to be the best that we can be for our children – but most of all – to be present.
Many of us today are in a constant state of sympathetic stimulation in our nervous system through the impact of stress and the pressure of life. One key point I want to make here is that, as we are the ones to co-regulate the nervous systems of our children. This means that when we are in a constant state of stress, our children have no where that they themselves can find relief and discharge their own stress.
Learning how to be that calm and steady anchor that they need is not an intellectual exercise, and it is not something that we do through talking – it all comes down to our embodiment. How much we are truly in the here and now. Aware, present and available.
This may seem like a confronting task but it may be the most important work that we do for our children. Nothing can equal to the gift of being truly present and truly ourselves for our children. As adults however, we ourselves may need a community of practice where we can develop these skills of being present and attuned. We first of all need to learn how to heal from the impact of stress and build resilience in our nervous system.
I invite you to join me in a supportive community of practice where we nourish and resource ourselves to be able to serve and support our children and teens.
Each class will focus on a different theme:
Themes can include but are not limited to-
The autonomic nervous system and how to bring this into balance. Working on the subconscious mind through movement, intention and affirmation. Bringing relief to the heart to process emotions through movement and meditation. Resourcing through connection to the earth element and how to stay grounded through challenging situations at home. How to prepare the body for a deeply restful sleep and combat insomnia. Learning to cultivate a “neutral mind” so that we are less reactive when our children or others, press our buttons! The key focus is on empowering your capacity to resource yourself and cope with stress – to be able to invite more joy , aliveness and creativity into our lives.
Class format:
Grounding and presencing – tuning into the body and inner sensing.
Warm ups and stretching – gentle movement to awaken space and release tension within the body.
Breath attention exercises – breath is one of the key tools that we can work with to restore nervous system balance, to deepen our capacity for presence and to regulate stress throughout our day.
Kundalini Yoga Kriya -each class will focus on a key area or theme to enhance inner resilience and invite more vital force energy into our lives so that we can live with creativity and joy.
Deep relaxation
Check in chats with others for support and connection.
Blessings to close.
About Kundalini Yoga & Meditation
Research has shown the effectiveness of kundalini yoga and meditation as a science and technology for healing and transformation. KRI, The Kundalini Yoga Research Institute charts the ongoing research that is being done. There is also the independent work of medical doctors who are also Kundalini Yoga instructors and practitioners such as, for example, Guru Dharma Singh Khalsa, who has focused on Alzheimers and brain health, and Sat Bir Singh Khalsa , assistant professor of medicine at Harvard who has studied the impact of yoga in healing anxiety and sleep disorders.
