Ó thosaigh mé ag ceol nuair a bhí mé óg, tá an t-ádh liom go raibh deiseanna agam an cheird a fhorbairt. Le déanaí táim an bhuíoch go bhfuil níos mó ócáid agam chun an ceol nua a cur i láthair agus cruthaitheacht ealaíne a cur leis.
I play music on guitar, low whistle, frame drum, sruti box and I sing, I have been composing music and writing songs since I started on the tin whistle and a little keyboard at the age of five. Only in the past few years have I grown in confidence to begin sharing and performing more.
When I was 14 I decided to look for a guitar teacher and began studies in Classical Guitar with Derrick Long who had studied with John Williams: I am grateful for the discipline that gave me. An interest in the anthropology of music brought me to study an MA in Ethnomusicology in UCC ( 2008). The late Tony Langlois was my thesis supervisor who also taught a course on frame drum and North African music. I wrote about my own journey as an outsider trying to learn Sean nós singing for my thesis. Since last year, there has been an appearance of some original music for guitar and collaborating with Classical Guitarist/ Composer Finn Pitcher on some new pieces : you can listen to my part of a recording of a piece from Imagined Trains here.
Below you can learn more and listen to music composed with children in schools. More recordings of devotional music, guided meditation and original songs are available on Soundcloud and Bandcamp.

Music, Mantra & Healing

My daughter Luna took this photo and it was fun to add some creative features*
Live music is a key part of the classes I offer in Kundalini Yoga & meditation offering a way to support and guide deep relaxation. Wise teachers have passed down a body of knowledge known as Naad Yoga, the science of sound within Kundalini Yoga. All is vibration and chanting as a group allows us to align with the sound current of the universe. There are many uplifting Shabds and sung poetry of warrior saints starting with the compositions of Guru Naanak who travelled the world singing praises of One God and teaching equality between genders, social classes and an end to slavery. I have been a student of world music and completed an MA in Ethnomusicology ( UCC 2008), I am grateful to have also studied Naad Yoga with Mata Mandir Singh (2004).
