Project BETA

In the world that we live in, there is so much room for creativity, for play, for adventure and new horizons of experience, growth and learning. Yet, the compulsive and relentless presence of technology appears to displace that capacity, replacing our personal unknown with an endless stream of potential novelty and distraction.

As a single mother to a teenage girl, one of the greatest challenges has been the impact of technology on our lives. I do not have the answers but I have been on a quest to understand the problems and find solutions – I would like to invite you to join me.

As a tool, technology can be fantastic – if approached with focus, purpose and intention. Yet, even as adults many of us may find ourselves loosing time to the machine.

It seems that the single greatest frontier and challenge that we are faced with, both individually and collectively, is how to become mature and wise in the presence of the all pervasive realms of digital media, and communication technologies.

How much is at stake? Why is this important now?

From the statistics, it is clear that there has been an undeniably negative impact from the use of smartphones among young people – social media and the vast internet. There are also the less reported, invisible yet undeniable electromagnetic fields that have been affecting our environment, insect, bird, animal and plant life as well as our own.

It appears that there is an implicit version of reality, complete with unspoken beliefs that is enacted through both the gaming and social media worlds. The elephant in the room is the fact that mental health can be suffering in silence, social capacity is diminishing and with this, the autonomy and sovereignty of our children.

I believe that there is hope however.

Technology can also be used for good.

Through working with our own human inner technology we can also become the conscious users : active through intuition, creativity and lived reality.

There are also many old and new ways that can be explored to engage with the technology of our humanity – our misplaced impulse for belonging and interdependence for which our devices can be but a surrogate distraction.

An exciting and worthy mission : to challenge the tide of atrophy and apathy – through activating genius, creativity and a capacity for new ideas and solutions.
